My friend, Brenda Baugh, in the Lehi, Utah Stake, asked for this arrangement for an upcoming stake conference. Every so often when arranging, a musical idea comes along that truly seems at one with the text. Such was the case with How Gentle.
Like everyone else, I feel anxious and concerned about the state of the world and its impact on my family and I worry about the future. While arranging this hymn I felt a peaceful, calming spirit which reminded of the scripture: “Be still, and know that I am God.” In this piece, I especially like the cascading echoes at the end that highlight the line: Come cast your burdens on the Lord … and bear a song away.

Do you have just the piano part written by itself?
I do now! Thanks, Janae. (And I made sure the music spacing printed properly as well – see Tamara’s note).
I love your arrangements and have used a number of them over the past several years in my Ward Choir and also a Stake Choir for Stake Conference last year. Thank you very much for sharing your gifts so generously! I’m not sure if you’ve had any other feedback about this, but I have noticed rhythm problems throughout the accompaniment in the How Gentle God’s Commands arrangement. Could you have a look and check it out? Thanks.

Thanks, Tamara! I’m glad you find the arrangements useful. I have corrected the music spacing issues with the accompaniment. Thanks for alerting me!

Thanks, Tamara. I had previously fixed the piano-only part, but forgot to fix the score itself. I’ve updated it now. Please see if this looks better. I’m glad that the arrangements help out with your choir! Please feel free to keep the feedback coming; I really appreciate it!
