@Fran: Thanks for your kind words and expressions of gratitude. I really appreciate it!

There isn’t an existing viola part, but the viola can typically double the alto line. Here’s what I might try:

    1. No viola in the first verse
    2. Have the viola double the tenor line in the men’s verse starting at the words “But little Lord Jesus” (last beat of m.27) through measure 39.
    3. Have the viola double the alto line in the last verse starting at the words “Bless all the dear children” (last beat of m. 50) through measure 63.
    4. Viola tacet to end.

Your violist might have some other suggestions as you get into the piece (she could borrow from the tenor voice of the piano at the end, for example), but the above would be passable, I think. Good luck!

I LOVE your music and so thankful for talented people such as yourself who share your gift with others. It makes my job as Ward Music Chair & now doing double duty as the choir director, so much easier when I dont’ have to spend so much money on music and wait to see if I even
    like it.

I am having a combined 3 ward choir perform the “Away in the Manger” with cello but I also have viola I want to add and don’t know what to have them play. Do you have music for that to this song? Or can you suggest how to incorporate the viola with the cello on this song?

  3. Steve says:

Thanks so much, Melissa! It makes all the difference in the world to hear from choir directors like you. Best of luck with your musical efforts in the church. :)

Just chose this arrangement(choral/piano) for our ward choir to perform at Christmas Sacrament meeting. It was a hit! I received many compliments. Thank you Steven for your wonderful talent!

(My ward choir also did Testimony earlier in the year)

  5. Sister Browning says:

Just wondering if the full score is available for this yet?

  6. Steve says:

    Hi Stephanie,

I will do my best to get this put together ASAP. Hopefully you can work with the parts “as is” in the meantime. I should be able to do this fairly quickly though… stay tuned!

  7. Stephanie says:

I too am very excited to be having my choir sing “Away in a Manger”. Do you have the full score for the SATB with the Cello part included?

    Thanks for the beautiful music!

  8. Steve says:

@heather: I don’t see it either! Sorry, I have a few versions of this floating around. I’ll put something together for you ASAP (it may take me a week or two to assemble and publish). Sorry for the inconvenience! Thanks for using the site and for letting me know. More soon…

Hi, I am very excited about “Away in a Manger” but I don’t see a full score available. Do you happen to have a full score that I could print?

  10. Steve says:

Sorry, Raven. I don’t yet have an mp3 for this one! I’m working on some updates for next year, but it won’t be in time to help you this time around. Perhaps someone could play it on the piano (or a keyboard) for you? Good luck!

  11. Raven says:

Hey I was looking for The Mp3 of “Away In a Manger Tb with Flute and Piano and i couldn’t find it. I have to play the flute part in church and I really need to hear this song before I start Practice Thanks!

  12. Steve says:

Thank you, Andra! Obviously, I’ve been very busy myself … we’ve moved recently and I think the dust is finally beginning to settle to where I can pay attention to the site. Good luck with your choir!

  13. Andra Eaton says:

    Hi Steve,

I’m sorry I didn’t see this till now, but thank you for responding! It’s a beautiful piece and we will be sure to use it!

    Thanks again,

    Andra

  14. Steve says:

No problem, Andra (I guess I really should provide some contact info for the blog!). I’ve posted Testimony, per your request. Sorry it took me so long; it’s been a very busy new year! I hope you get this in time for ward conference.

  15. Andra Eaton says:

I apologize for going about this in this manner, but I cannot find another way to contact you. I am extremely interested in using some sheet music you once had available called “Tesimony” I believe. I used it in the past but left it for another director to use, and would like to use it again for an upcoming ward conference.

You work is beautiful and has invited the spirit into the meetings i have use it in. Thank you.

    Andra Eaton
